Honest-1® Emission Inspections
In response to the requirements of the 1990 Clean Air Act, many Honest-1 Auto Care® Centers offer state emissions tests. If an emissions inspection is required in your area, please check with your local Honest-1® to determine if emission tests are offered.
All Honest-1 Auto Care® Centers can perform inspections and repairs to your emission system. Their ASE Certified Technicians are trained in checking and repairing your Emission System from the exhaust manifold on your engine to the tail pipe.
The exhaust manifolds are connected to the cylinder heads on your engine. They collect exhaust gases that travel through the exhaust system. The gases pass by oxygen sensors which analyze the gases to see if the fuel mixture is to rich or lean. This information is sent to your computer which in turn sends the information to sensors to adjust the fuel mixture. The gases pass through the catalytic convertor next were they are refined and finally pass through the muffler. Most people think the muffler only quiets the car but it plays a role in emission performance as well, if it becomes plugged it will affect the emission system performance.
Our trained Technicians can keep your emission system performing to its peak potential, giving you a quiet, clean, smooth and fuel saving ride.
You should have your exhaust system checked at least twice a year as 80% of it is exposed to weather, and road conditions.
A visual inspection of your exhaust system from front to rear is part of our famous 21 Point Inspection performed at no charge every time your vehicle is in for service at any or our Honest-1® Centers.
What we look for:
- Cracks in exhaust manifolds and leaking gaskets affecting safety and performance
- Damaged wires to Oxygen sensors. Affecting information back to computer and performance
- Catalytic convertors for excessive dents, holes, corrosion causing excessive noise and reduced performance.
- Mufflers for corrosion from rust, holes, and excessive dents, causing air pollution and reduced performance.
- Exhaust pipes and hangers for excessive rust, missing bolts broken brackets or clamps causing danger to traffic behind your vehicle and affecting performance.
